A Nassau doctor is running the New York City Marathon after surviving a life-threatening medical ordeal that gave him a second chance at life.
David Schulsinger, from Laurel Hollow, was just three weeks away from running the 2024 NYC Marathon, which would have been his 26th marathon, when his life was almost uprooted. He had what is known as a "widow-maker" heart attack.
Doctors say that this type of heart attack has a 92% mortality rate if not treated within 90 minutes. Schulsinger got a life-saving stent at 81 minutes.
He was told he would never run again, but after a few years and some hard work Schulsinger took off from his 26th marathon at 9:10 a.m. on Sunday.
