A woman was killed in a crash along Route 27 in Roselle late Halloween night, according to police.
Roselle police say the crash happened around 11:40 p.m. at the intersection of St. George and Chandler avenues. They say a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox struck a curb, veered through a fence line, continued through an open lot and finally stopped in an adjoining Wawa parking lot.
The victim was identified as 19-year-old Jayla Pryor, of Linden. She was a passenger inside the vehicle. Her brother, 27-year-old Joshua Pryor, was the driver and sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The incident closed Route 27 in both directions for several hours. It was finally reopened around 9 a.m. Friday. The Wawa parking lot and gas pumps were also closed for a time.
Roselle Mayor Donald Shaw shared his condolences to the family of the victim.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Roselle police are asking anyone who may be a witness to contact the crash investigator at DBembry@RosellePD.com or 908-259-4019.
