Police are looking for a man who allegedly struck another man with his vehicle in North Amityville, dragged him for nearly 100 feet and then sped off.
Police say the fatal hit-and-run happened around 4:45 Monday morning on Route 110 in North Amityville. Heriberto DeJesus, 40, was crossing the northbound lanes when the vehicle slammed into him. The driver left DeJesus to die in the street, police say.
Route 110 was closed for hours as police investigated. Police are looking at surveillance video from a Citgo station witnesses say the driver passed as he drove away.
Those who live in the area say walking across Route 110 can be very dangerous. ?These people over here sometimes don't have any concerns for pedestrians,? Reishawn Watson, of North Amityville, says. ?They just go as fast as they want.?
