Elected officials are urging tens of thousands of eligible first responders to register for economic benefits under the Zadroga Act as a crucial deadline approaches.

Responders have until Oct. 3 to register for economic losses with the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund. Politicians stressed the importance of that date at a news conference Monday in Lower Manhattan.

"Whether you're sick or not, remember to register," says Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-12th District).

There is no deadline to register for health benefits.
