Nassau, Suffolk extend hours at area beaches, pools due to potential heat wave

In the Town of Hempstead, lifeguards will be on duty at all town pools until 8 p.m. Beaches will be staffed until 7 p.m.

As temperatures soar over the next few days across Long Island, some towns are giving residents a way to beat the heat.
Storm Watch Team Meteorologist Rich Hoffman says expect highs in the 80s today, but temps will heat up into the 90s on Thursday and Friday with feel-like temps around 100. Watch his full forecast below:
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Long Island starting Thursday at 11 a.m. and ending Friday at 9 p.m.
Hempstead Town beaches and pools will be open late starting today.
Lifeguards will be on duty at all town pools until 8 p.m. Beaches will be staffed until 7 p.m.
Dozens of senior centers will be letting people come in to cool down from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The extended hours will last through Saturday.
Meanwhile, pools and beaches in the Town of Huntington are offering the same.
Town of Huntington Colling Centers The Dix Hills pool will be open to everyone, not just residents, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Lifeguards will be on duty there, as well as multiple town beaches until 8 p.m.
The same goes for the town spray parks.
Two cooling centers will be open as well.
