Well, seal season has begun and they can be seen islandwide.
Seal season has officially begun on Long Island, and the NY Marine Rescue Center is reminding people to admire the seals from a distance.
Seals are federally protected, and going within 150 feet of them can result in a fine.
Allison Deperte, with the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society, says you should always call the hotline to let the rescue teams know there is a seal on the beach.
