Gov. David Paterson is trying to halt a possible fare hike for commuters on Long Island and in the rest of New York City.The MTA is meeting Wednesday to discuss how it can make up $900 million in its budget for next year. The MTA says the financial crunch is due to rising fuel prices and declining tax revenues. Long Island Rail Road commuters could see a hike of as much as 8 percent. Fares were last increased in March.Gov. Paterson says another increase "is not wise."
