A massive fire gutted a gas station in Mineola Tuesday.
Officials said the fire started at the Getty gas station, located at 449 West Jericho Turnpike at Latham Road, around 9 a.m.
According to police, four employees and the owner of the station were inside the work bays when the fire started. ?Everybody?s fine, that?s the most important thing right now,? said the owner. ?That?s all that matters.?
Eight fire departments battled for about an hour before extinguishing the flames.
Fifteen to 20 homes and businesses in the area were evacuated since the 911 call initially came in as a propane fire. Fire officials said that isn't the case, however, and they aren?t sure what caused it at this time.
Police officials do not believe the fire to be suspicious.
