Family of 'Jo-Jo' Wright files wrongful death lawsuit against Town of Hempstead

A wrongful death lawsuit is being filed in the car crash that killed a Uniondale boy.
Jomani "Jo-Jo" Wright was killed in an accident in January.
"My baby's gone now," says Joseph Wright, Jomani Wright's father. "How many more kids are going to have to die? Are we going to be here again? It's a simple fix."
The suit is being filed against the Town of Hempstead after the 15-year-old aspiring basketball players was killed while headed to practice.
Joseph Wright's lawyer, Heather Palmore, says the town failed to put up stop signs and traffic lights.
"You are witnessing the lack of infrastructure in our communities," Palmore says.
The Wright family says there were no stop signs on Maple Avenue when the accident occurred. There is now a stop sign in that area.
Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump says officials knew that this intersection was dangerous and could have prevented this accident and others.
"This dangerous, defective, death trap at Front Street and Maple Avenue in the Town of Hempstead was known to everybody," Crump says. "It was foreseeable."
Joseph Wright says he's painfully reminded of what happened to his son every time he drives through the area.
"I have to see this broken pole," Joseph Wright says. "I continuously have to drive down Front Street with no stop signs."
The family is demanding that money from the new infrastructure bill be used to help make streets in the neighborhood safer.
