FAA grants Suffolk $5M for new air traffic control tower at Gabreski Airport
A makeover is coming to Francis S. Gabreski Airport's air traffic control tower.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded Suffolk County $5 million for construction of a new tower at the Westhampton Beach airport.
In addition to small planes, the facility is used by New York Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing.
The tower currently in place was built in the 1940s and no longer meets fire, safety and security standards.
