A grandmother from Suffolk County who already had a slew of traffic infractions under her belt was arrested last night after she allegedly sped down Sunrise Highway while intoxicated with her young granddaughter in the back seat.

Police say Wanda Carter, 42, was spotted driving 88 mph by an officer on Sunrise Highway in Patchogue at around 3:20 a.m. Officials say Carter had her 7-year-old granddaughter in the car with her.

Carter has no known address and was driving a rental car last night, police say. It's unclear where she was coming from, but police say she was headed for North Bellport to return the child to her mother.

Investigators say that when she was arrested, she gave police a false identity, instead claiming to be her own daughter. Police say they discovered that she had 28 previous driver's license suspensions and two outstanding warrants.
