A 15-year-old student arrested for plotting a violent attack on Connetquot High School was sentenced to psychiatric treatment Wednesday, although the exact details were not settled upon.
The judge in Family Court in Central Islip told the teenager, who is currently receiving treatment at Sagamore Children's Psychiatric Center in Dix Hills, "I've been getting good reports. Keep up the good work."
No decision was made on when or where the teen will receive his treatment. He is due back in court November 20, but could appear sooner if space at a facility becomes available.
A journal describing the plot, for which he allegedly recruited the help of his 17-year-old friend Michael McDonough, was accidentally dropped in the street, exposing the plot over the summer.
The teen's mother told News 12 Long Island, "The most important thing is that he gets the help and education he needs. He absolutely never would have done anything he wrote about. It was a way to vent. He doesn't have a violent bone in his body."
