The latest U.S. Census figures show that as many as 40 percent of Long Islanders say they are struggling to pay their mortgages.
According to Newsday, four out of 10 Long Islanders spend more than 35 percent of their income on housing. Experts recommend against spending more than 30 percent of earnings on housing.
