The NYPD is asking for the public’s help in identifying eight individuals who are wanted in connection with a beating of an 18‑year‑old man and attempted robbery in Bedford Park.

Police say the incident happened May 5 around 9:30 p.m. in front of 2917 Grand Concourse, where the eight unidentified men approached the 18‑year‑old from behind. The suspects then pushed him to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked him.

The group also attempted to remove items from the victim's pants' pockets before they fled, according to investigators.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was in stable condition as of Sunday night, according to police.

NYPD detectives released photos of the suspects. The release has drawn concern from some residents who say they worry about safety in the neighborhood, particularly at night.

"Just have to be very careful," one community member said.

"It's not safe. It's not safe. We need more security," another resident said.

Some neighbors said they avoid walking outside late at night.

"I stay out of walking areas when it's really dark and not populated," one resident said.

David Dominguez expressed concern about crime in the area.

"10 o'clock, 11 o'clock, 1 o'clock, no, I can't trust nobody around here. It's dangerous here," Dominguez said.

Others said they have witnessed disturbances in the neighborhood before.

"Sometime when I be outside, people be fighting," said Nancy, a local resident.

Bernardo Garcia said he recently heard about another crime nearby.

"The other day I heard someone snatched a chain nearby. The police chased after the guy and caught him," Garcia said.

HD Diaoune, who lives on the Grand Concourse, encouraged residents to look out for one another.

"We the people have to live in a community. We['re] supposed to look out for each-other when you see something, say something," Diaoune said.

Police ask anyone who recognizes the suspects to contact Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑577‑TIPS. Tips can be submitted anonymously.
