Several first responder agencies in Rockland County are receiving state funding to support equipment purchases, facility improvements and other operational needs.

The announcement was made Thursday morning during a visit by New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to New City Ambulance Corps headquarters alongside the local representative, Assemblyman Patrick Carroll.

News 12 learned that thousands of dollars in unallocated state funds will be distributed to agencies throughout the county for projects ranging from replacing equipment to repairing and improving facilities.

News 12 is told that the funding awards are:

  • Thiells Fire Department: $380,000 to replace its search and rescue vehicle damaged by an accident.

  • Nyack General Fire Protection Company No. 2: $950,000 for property rehabilitation to provide affordable housing for firefighters.

  • Congers Ambulance Corps: $525,000.

  • New City Ambulance Corps: $415,000.

  • Haverstraw Ambulance Corps: $375,000.

  • Nanuet Ambulance Corps: $190,000.

Carroll said the funding would help support organizations that play a critical role in their communities.

"They're the backbones of our community. And I know that though they are appreciated, sometimes they need a little influx of capital, so I was happy the speaker came," Carroll said.

Heastie said the goal is to ensure local agencies have the resources they need to serve residents.

"So, we just want to make sure that Rockland County has what they need for their people," said Heastie.

The visit to Rockland County was one stop on Heastie's tour of Assembly districts across New York state.
