New restrictions are coming to popular hemp beverages in New Jersey, following a bill signed into law today by Gov. Mikie Sherrill. Beginning April 13, consumers will no longer be able to purchase these drinks at convenience stores, gas stations or general retailers.
Instead, sales will be limited to select liquor stores and cannabis dispensaries that obtain a special state license, marking a significant shift in how these widely available products are regulated.
The new law also places strict limits on THC content in hemp beverages. Under the rules, each serving may contain no more than 5 mg of total THC, with a maximum of 10 mg per container.
State officials say the changes are aimed at improving consumer safety.
