Smithtown father seeking organ transplant for double kidney failure

John DeTurris went in for a routine checkup at his doctor two months ago - a visit that changed his life forever.

The Smithtown man was told both his kidneys were failing, and would need a transplant sooner, rather than later.

John lives in Smithtown with his wife and 9-month-old daughter.

The 35-year old is hoping for a living donor, as the wait for deceased donors can take wo to five years, according to doctors at Stony Brook Medicine - with over 100,000 people on the waitlist for a kidney transplant.
