The Department of Environmental Conservation is working to contain a fuel leak from a vessel that sunk in Mattituck Creek on Saturday.

DEC and Coast Guard officials say spill response personnel placed an absorbent boom around the vessel to contain the visible sheen on the water.

DEC staff visited the site the following day and found the boom saturated with diesel fuel.

Officials say an environmental contractor deployed additional absorbent material and absorbent boom.

Crews are working to pump the remaining fuel from the tank and maintain absorbents.
