The William Floyd School District’s Board of Education held its first public meeting since a student was caught with a loaded gun at the high school.
The meeting comes one week after the school board decided to install metal detectors in all of its K-12 schools. The decision was made during an executive session which was closed to the public.
On Tuesday, school Superintendent Kevin Coster revealed the district plans to install the metal detectors by the end of the school year. Potential vendors are currently being interviewed.
Students are currently being screened with metal detector wands as they enter school buildings and throughout the day. The school district has ordered dozens of additional wands to increase the number of screenings.
