A man from South Carolina drowned off the shores of Sailors Haven on Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Authorities say the 59-year-old was swimming when he became caught in a rip current around 2:45 p.m.

Lifeguards pulled him from the water and tried to render aid. He was then airlifted to a hospital and pronounced dead.
