A wild car chase that began last night at a police checkpoint in Mount Vernon eventually wound up in Co-op City.
Police say the driver of a yellow taxi drove straight through the police checkpoint and struck two Mount Vernon police officers. It prompted police to follow the vehicle several miles into the Bronx.
At one point, officials say the taxi stopped by 233rd Street and Dyre Avenue. When a cop started walking over to the taxi, the driver allegedly started driving toward him. Police say that the cop fired at the taxi, but didn't hit anything.
The chase ended at around 8 p.m. on Co-op City Boulevard and Bartow Avenue. Viewer video captured the scene.
Mount Vernon police will determine what charges the taxi driver may face.
