A Westbury Middle School teacher's aide was charged with the rape of a 14-year-old student Tuesday.
Over time, 23-year-old Ned Barnes, of Brentwood, built up an inappropriate relationship with a female student, said Det. Lt. Kevin Smith, of the Nassau County Police Department. Smith said Barnes had sex with the teen twice in his car and once more in an empty classroom. Each incident allegedly occurred last month.
After their relationship seemed to cool, Smith said the victim felt neglected or angry and reported Barnes to school officials.
Barnes pleaded not guilty to rape and other charges. He is being held on $75,000 cash bail.
School district officials said through a statement that Barnes no longer works for the district.
