The annual 22 PTSD Awareness Challenge is underway.
Each year, 22 veterans kayak 22 miles from Bridgeport, Connecticut to Port Jefferson.
The journey is meant to raise awareness about post traumatic stress among veterans.
The number 22 was chosen because on average, 22 veterans commit suicide each day.
The event is held in partnership with the Tribute and Honor Foundation.
Proceeds will support organizations that help veterans in need.
