PSEG Long Island’s “Power to Feed Long Island” kicked off Friday. It's a food drive outside various Stop & Shops over the next few months.
“Everything’s so expensive. We need to help each other,” Karen Valerie, of Massapequa told News 12. She was one of the many people who donated food and other items on Friday to the food drive.
PSEG says in the summer, “...there is a significant reduction in food donations to local food banks, pantries, and other programs.”
Some suggested items to donate (non-perishable) include:
Pasta
Rice
Soups
Canned tuna and chicken
Canned vegetables
Canola Oil
Spices
Olive oil
Beans
Pet food
Toilet paper
Paper towels
Laundry detergent
Diapers
Wipes
Toothpaste
Toothbrushes
Pads
Tampons
The next food drive will be held on Friday, June 27 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Stop & Shop on Jericho Turnpike in East Northport.
