The Valley Stream School District 30 celebrated the 100th anniversary of its flagship Clear Stream Avenue School on Wednesday.

Prior to the creation of the district, students living west of Merrick Avenue had to attend schools in different districts or in Elmont.

After families brought their concerns to the county, the school opened its doors in September 1923.

Students wrapped up the celebration by surrounding the building with one big hug.
