The areas hardest hit by Saturday’s storm saw trees topple, destroying sidewalks, cars and houses.
Trees uprooted by the storm leveled the sidewalk on Hempstead Avenue in Rockville Centre.
Tom Ottinger, of Levittown, says he and his wife ran for cover when a tornado warning sounded Saturday afternoon.
Within minutes, strong winds uprooted two massive trees in Ottinger’s neighborhood, sending one crashing down on a house on Clover Lane.
The tree trunk split open the roof and the branches spilled over to the backyard.
A few blocks away on Hilltop Road, the storm sent a gigantic tree crashing down on an SUV.
The tree also took down power lines on the block.

In Rockville Centre, the wild weather toppled multiple oak trees on Hempstead Avenue.
In a matter of seconds, the storm took one tree down on Dartmouth Street that had stood there for decades.
A massive tree slammed into one Rockville Centre home, knocked over the chimney and took down a few power lines. Sparks from the live wires ignited a small fire in the front yard.
Thankfully, neighbors say the homeowners were out of town when the chaos broke out.

PSEGLI crews spent the overnight hours Sunday repairing lines and restoring power.
