Town pools, beaches extend hours to beat extreme heat
The extension comes as a heat wave blankets Long Island.

Communities across Long Island are getting ready to beat the extreme heat this week, with many towns extending its hours at pools, beaches and recreation centers.
Beaches, pools, spray pads and cooling centers in North Hempstead will have extended hours starting tomorrow through Sunday and Brookhaven facilities will also be open on Thursday and Friday from 11a.m. to 7p.m.
Additionally, the town of Huntington will have extended hours through the holiday weekend and be utilizing the senior center as a cooling center for its residents, officials said.
