The Town of Riverhead is considering loosening restrictions on where cannabis dispensaries can open.
Right now, they can't exist within 1,000 feet of any residence or within 550 feet of a school. The restrictions are making it hard for license holders to find places to open. Riverhead's supervisor says changes need to be made because the town is losing out on money.
"I've seen the numbers that are coming in - to some of these shops that are opening west and in New York City, and it's staggering the amount of money we are losing. And we're handcuffing ourselves by limiting down," says Riverhead Town Supervisor Tim Hubbard.
