Everything's coming up roses for florists across Long Island as Valentine's Day quickly approaches.
Samantha Hillkewicz owns Boulevard Florist in Center Moriches.
"This is our Super Bowl. This is our Black Friday. This holiday and Mother's Day are like our make or break,” she said.
This time of year is always hectic as people place orders for that special someone.
"Today we just got all of our flowers,” said Hillkewicz. “Today starts production, we start graining our vases, and we're cleaning all of our flowers."
Hillkewicz says she learned all about flowers from her mom and opened her shop three years ago. This time of year, it's all hands on deck to prepare orders as they come in for not just Valentine's Day.
"We get to be a part of so many different milestones,” said Hillkewicz. “We have people come in to us for engagement parties, and then their weddings and then their first baby, their anniversary."
Hillkewicz recommends placing those Valentine's Day orders ahead of time so you're not left looking for a new Valentine next year.
"Valentine's Day is a last minute holiday for, you know, it's the guys," said Hillkewicz. "If you know you want a custom arrangement, custom colors, a certain type of flower, I would definitely do it sooner than later."
