Suffolk residents split in vote on 2 propositions

Proposition 2 authorizes moving money from a reserve fund designated for stabilizing sewers and putting it toward closing the budget gap created by the pandemic.

Voters in Suffolk County voted on two propositions and a third if they lived in the Town of Riverhead.
Proposition 1 asked voters to decide if they want to change the term of Suffolk County legislators from two to four years. With 98% of precincts reporting, 71% voted no on the proposal.
Proposition 2 authorizes moving money from a reserve fund designated for stabilizing sewers and putting it toward closing the budget gap created by the pandemic. With 98% precincts reporting, 54% voted yes on that proposal.
In Riverhead, the third proposition asked voters to approve increasing the term of town supervisor from two to four years. The proposal was not approved - with 66% voting no.
