Suffolk lawmakers call on AG to review $3M taxpayer-funded election lawsuit
Members of the Suffolk County Legislature Democratic Caucus say the county and eight other Long Island municipalities spent taxpayer dollars to challenge the state's Even-Year Election Law.

Suffolk County Democrats called on New York State Attorney General Letitia James on Tuesday to review how taxpayer funds may have been used in a $3 million election lawsuit.
Members of the Suffolk County Legislature Democratic Caucus say the county and eight other Long Island municipalities spent taxpayer dollars to challenge the state's Even-Year Election Law.
The caucus claims the money was also used for hotel stays, banquets, meetings and public relations and media strategy surrounding the lawsuit.
"Perhaps those expenditures were appropriate, if they were the public should be able to see the documentation and understand the rationale," said legislature Rebecca Sanin, "Show the records, show the receipts, explain the decisions."
The caucus says their focus is not about the support for the Even-Year Election Law - but solely on giving the public transparency and a full accounting of how the money was spent.
