State rep. Anabel Figueroa has resigned from the Stamford Board of Representatives.
Figueroa, who currently represents the 148th District, confirmed her resignation to News 12 Friday.
Figueroa's resignation comes after she was seen on video using antisemitic rhetoric to describe her democratic primary opponent, Jonathan Jacobson.
In the video, Figueroa was caught saying, "we cannot permit a person who is of Jewish origin, to represent our community."
As News has reported, in response, Figueroa said, "we are being represented by different nationalities and ethnicities and I have nothing against any ethnicity, but what I am trying to do is gain more elected officials within the Hispanic community…by no means did I mean to inflict any kind of pain,"
Jacobson defeated Figueroa in their primary earlier this week.
Figueroa tells News 12 she will remain a state representative until her term expires.
She also has no intention of resigning from her board seat with the Stamford Democratic City Committee.
The President Stamford Board of Representatives says nominating a replacement will come at a later date.
Statement from Nancy DINardo, the Chair of Connecticut Democratic Party:
"The Connecticut Democratic Party condemns the hateful, antisemitic comments made by State Rep. Anabel Figueroa of Stamford about her primary opponent. This isn't the first time she has made hateful comments. The pattern is disturbing ,and has no place in political discourse. Anabel Figueroa's resignation from the Stamford Board of Representatives was the right thing to do. The voters of Stamford have also sent a strong message this week that they no longer want Figueroa to represent them in the state legislature. The Democratic State Party will support the Stamford Democratic City Committee in whatever further action they take to hold her accountable."
