A new space in Brentwood opened on Friday to help mothers who have been impacted by jail, prison or incarceration reconnect with their children.

“New Hour for Women and Children Long Island” helps strengthen the connection between a mother and her children after incarceration.

The organization says it has impacted 12,000 women who have come home from Long Island jails in the last six years. And the new space will allow them to increase that number.

"We provide programs in the jails across Long Island for getting women prepared to come home so that when they come home, they have a plan in place and support,” a “New Hour for Woman and Children Long Island” representative said. “Do women who come into our doors are less likely to commit another crime.”

The new space has a reading room and more places for moms to bond with their children.
