If you are looking for a quaint village with a lot of history - and shopping - spend the day out east in Greenport.

The historic village features museums, galleries and a downtown packed with shops and restaurants. Head to Claudio's for a bite to eat at the longest single-family owned restaurant in the country! Or just stop by their outdoor clam bar for music and drinks on the water.

Speaking of water, why not hop on a ferry to Shelter Island, where you can rent a bike and cruise around town.

If you want to stay on land, take a trip down memory lane on the carousel, which was built in the 1920s. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. all summer. Or dance the night away every Monday at Mitchell Park.

And coming up on Sept. 20, Greenport's annual Maritime Festival kicks off, where you can enjoy food and family themed exhibits.
