The Brentwood Union Free School District's mascot will now be the Spartans.

The district is the first school on Long Island to change its name after the New York state ban on Native American mascots. Brentwood was one of 12 public schools that had to change its name before the new policy begins after next school year or potentially lose state aid.

Brentwood says it is now accepting submissions from the community for the design of the Spartans. To submit your own design, click here.
