Southampton Town is buying an aging motel in Hampton Bays for more than $1 million.
News 12 reported last year about the town’s plan to purchase the Bel-Aire Cove Motel on Shinnecock Road.
Newsday reports that the Town voted Tuesday in favor of purchasing the motel.
The town hopes to find a developer to turn the property into condos or an upscale hotel. Some residents want to see the land to be preserved instead.
