A Suffolk County corrections officer died Saturday morning, three days after being strangled at his second job as a bouncer in a Southampton bar.
Andrew Reister, 40, was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he was taken in critical condition following an assault Thursday night at the Publick House bar.Police say Reister was attacked by Anthony Oddone, 25, of Farmingville, after he told Oddone to stop dancing on a table.
According to Southampton Village authorities, Oddone started choking Reister, leaving him severely brain damaged. Several patrons attempted to stop the attacker, but to no avail. Oddone was taken into police custody as he attempted to flee in a taxi.
Following his arrest, Oddone was charged with first-degree assault. He is being held on $500,000 bail.
?It's a sad day for Suffolk County,? says Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy. ?Andrew is not only going to be missed by Suffolk County, but most importantly by his family.?
