As temperatures soar across Nassau County, experts are warning residents to be cautious — because this heat wave isn’t just uncomfortable, it can also be dangerous.

Even during intense heat, people are still getting outdoors, with local pickleball courts staying busy. The sound of paddles and laughter filled the air in Bethpage, as players embraced a bit of friendly competition.

But on days like these, health professionals are urging Long Islanders to stay vigilant.

“If you start to feel really hot, sweat profusely, feel your heart racing or get lightheaded — those are signs that the heat is catching up with you,” Rubano explained.

He recommends drinking water or beverages with electrolytes — and, most importantly, recognizing the early warning signs of heat illness.

At Ralph’s Italian Ices in Plainview, customers have been lining up all weekend for a sweet way to cool down.

“We should all stay safe and make sure we stay hydrated,” said Frank Asuncion, of Plainview. “In this case, hydrated and cool at the same time.”
