A Nobel Prize-winning scientist who co-discovered the DNA double helix was injured in a serious crash in Syosset.

News 12 has learned that Dr. James Watson veered off Bungtown Road and careened down a 20-foot hill into a ditch.

Tactical units pulled the 90-year-old out of his vehicle. Dr. Watson was airlifted to the hospital with a head injury.

News 12 reached out to Cold Spring Harbor Lab, where Dr. Watson works and lives with his family, but officials were not commenting at this time.

Dr. Watson's son says he hopes his father returns to work next week, to continue his research in finding a cure for cancer.
