A Setauket family is looking for a match for their 8-month-old in need of a liver transplant at Mount Sinai Children’s Hospital in New York City.
At just nine pounds, Sadie Swanson is suffering from a rare liver condition called biliary atresia, a blockage in the ducts that carry bile from the liver to the gallbladder.
The condition is causing Sadie’s liver to fail rapidly
“It's basically like having a newborn for eight months,” says Jessica, Sadie’s mother. “Just everything that you have to do all the doctors’ appointments just care and stuff and it's very hard.”
Jessica says through all of the tests and scares and now being fitted with a feeding tube, Sadie has been a source of strength for her family.
“She's like the best little girl in the entire world,” says Jessica. “We call her our warrior princess because she makes everyone laugh everyone in the ICU right now loves her.”
Sadie received a surgery in April that brought her some time, but Jessica says it is now time for her to be placed on the pediatric liver transplant list so that a living donor can donate.
“You can use an actual living donor they only take a tiny piece of an adult liver and they can miraculously transplant into it her, and it regenerates,” says Jessica. “So as crazy as it sounds it's not that big of a deal and it can save her life.”
While Sadie continues her fight at the ICU, the outpouring of support continues tonight on social media and a
