The Sag Harbor Cinema announced a soft reopening set for
April 9, five years after a fire destroyed the historic building.
According to its website, the rebuilt theater boasts “three
state-of-the-art screens with cutting-edge digital projection, industry-leading
HVAC and air-sanitizing systems, and one of the best sound-reproduction systems
in the state.”
“It’s been a long and challenging road to get to this
moment,” said
Sag Harbor Cinema capital campaign chair April Gornik in prepared
remarks. “But at long last, we are thrilled to be able to open our doors to Sag
Harbor and the East End, to welcome you back to your brand-new cinema - masked
and distanced, of course.”
The soft reopening will include short films in the running
for an Academy Award this year.
The grand opening is slated for Memorial Day weekend.
