Over a dozen cats were rescued Tuesday from a filthy and potentially dangerous home in Lindenhurst, officials say.
The SPCA and rescue groups wore hazmat suits and face masks as they pulled 13 cats from the home on Park Avenue.
News 12 is told the conditions inside the home were horrible with odors of urine and feces. Officials say remnants of dead cats were also found.
Some of the living cats have respiratory problems and were taken for treatment, according to the SPCA.
News 12 spoke with a rescue volunteer who said she helped trap some of the cats.
“The conditions in the house were deplorable. It was hard to move around. There was lots of clutter and garbage in the house. There was also a lot of urine and feces,” said Renee Kraft, of Save a Stray Rescue.
The house has now been condemned.
The SPCA says charges were filed against the person who lives at the home.
