Hofstra students react to potential faculty strike during first week of classes

Students are back on campus at Hofstra University as professors prepare for a potential strike over a contract dispute with the university.
Classes begin Monday, and the Hofstra chapter of the American Association of University Professors says a strike could begin as soon as Tuesday if the two sides cannot reach an agreement.
The union says it wants to reach a fair deal and avoid a strike. Professors and the university remain at odds over issues including pay and health care.
Some students say they are concerned about how a strike could affect their education.
“I’m kind of worried because I don’t want administration teaching classes or to lose instructional time online. It could really impact graduation,” said Conner Keough, a senior at Hofstra.
A Hofstra University spokesperson says the school is actively engaged in negotiations with the AAUP and is committed to reaching a fair agreement for faculty.
