Residents in the Bronx and across the city are taking better care of themselves, according to a report by the city's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Two years ago, the city created a program called Take Care New York (TCNY) that offers a list of 10 steps residents can follow to stay healthy. The report, released Wednesday, shows that residents are following most of the steps in an effort to keep up their health. The report also shows Bronx and city residents were less likely to die from AIDS or drug and alcohol abuse in 2005, than they were in 2002. However, infant mortality rates and the number of cases of fatal domestic violence did not improve.
