World Cup watch parties, the U.S. Open in Southampton and Father’s Day mean it’s going to be a busy weekend on the roads across Long Island.
Eisenhower Park played host to one of several World Cup watch parties Friday, where crowds of fans saw the U.S. Men’s National Team punch its ticket to the knockout round.
Thousands took in the United States’ 2-0 victory vs. Australia at the East Meadow park, as well as at UBS Arena.
The U.S. Open is also sure to cause traffic on the East End, with the 126th edition of the PGA major taking place at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club through Sunday.
This all comes in between two holidays — Juneteenth on Friday and Father’s Day on Sunday.
"A lot of traffic on the Belt Parkway, the Southern State Parkway, and then it started clearing up at Exit 18,” says Juanita Castillo, of Queens. “But it's just, if you can just brace that initial traffic, you'll be all right. But you’ve got to plan for it."
“Crazy weekend with the Knicks just finishing up, which everyone was excited about, the U.S. Open is going on in East Shinnecock,” says Mitchell Rechler, owner of the Long Island FC soccer club. “So it's a crazy week. But it's exciting. A lot of fun. Great for the Island."
