A new suspect has been arrested in the fatal beating of a Shirley man inside his home last Sunday.

Police say 33-year-old Benjamin Sheppard, of Central Islip, faces charges of murder and gang assault.

As News 12 previously reported, 48-year-old Christopher Martin died in a brutal attack involving multiple weapons.

Prosecutors say the assault included a sledgehammer, bat, dumbbells and a television.

Martin suffered broken ribs, a broken nose and severe facial injuries that led to his death.

Korey Sammarco and Melissa Fawcett were previously arrested in connection with the attack.

Police say the victim lived with Sammarco and used to date Fawcett.

Sheppard is currently in jail and expected to appear in court on Saturday.
