Two Suffolk County nursing homes have been cited by the New York State Health Department for substandard care that's putting their patients at risk.
The Avalon Gardens Rehab and Health Center on Route 25A in Smithtown and the East Neck Nursing and Rehab Center on Great East Neck Road in West Babylon were both cited as being in "immediate jeopardy."
Avalon Gardens was given the same status in July last year. Another agency cited the facility for having 11 health and safety violations that endangered its workers.
An attorney for East Neck says its citations stems from a case involving a patient with a do not resuscitate order who was given CPR by a nurse. The attorney says the nursing home reported the incident to the state itself and that the state accepted a plan of correction.
