Shots were fired at the Freeport train station Friday afternoon, according to MTA police.

They say two males got into a dispute inside a train around 4:30p.m.

The men got out at the Freeport train station and one of them fired a single shot at the other.

Then they both fled the scene.

Detectives arrived shortly after to interview witnesses and collect video and physical evidence.

Police recovered one shell casing at the scene but say no one appears to have been struck by the bullet.

Freeport police were canvassing hospitals in the area on Friday night to see if either person was admitted.

Riders say it’s concerning that the suspect had a weapon on the train.

“I'm here all the time, so hearing that is really shocking because it's generally a good area,” said Amaya Paton, of Freeport. “It's too late in the afternoon for that type of thing. That's rush hour...people are coming home from work. It's crazy to hear.”

No arrests had been made as of Friday evening.
