Recording artist helps save toddler found 'playing in traffic' on Sunrise Highway service road

A Good Samaritan rescued a 2-year-old girl who he found wandering Sunday on a busy Sunrise Highway service road.
Jeff Watkins, a recording artist who goes by the stage name "Voice Watkins," was going from his Bohemia studio to Patchogue around 12:40 a.m.
"I just saw a child running - I thought it was a dream because I was like there's no way a little child like that is running across the highway," Watkins says. "She was almost playing in traffic."
Watkins and his brother immediately stopped the car and got out to help.
They put the child in the car and asked if she was OK. Watkins says the toddler said, "I'm lost, help me, I'm lost."
Police say the toddler's mother had been driving under the influence of drugs and was parked nearby and unconscious. They say she had unbuckled her daughter's car seat and that how's 2-year-old got out of the car.
Watkins brought the girl to a nearby Wendy's and called the police.
When officers arrived, they administered Narcan to the mother and took her to the hospital.
The recording artist is now being called a hero for saving that toddler and her mother.
"I did feel good because I knew she was safe and the mom was OK," Watkins says.
The 32-year-old mother is now facing a long list of charges.
The toddler was brought to Stony Brook University Hospital to be evaluated and Child Protective Services has been notified.
