Overnight gas prices jumped almost eight cents on Long Island, inching closer to $5 a gallon.
In Commack, the price for regular unleaded gas stands at $4.89.
If you want diesel gas, Long Islanders will have to dig deeper into their pockets because a gallon of gas is almost $6 a gallon.
How does this station compare to others? On average, a gallon of regular gas on Long Island is at $4.34. That's an eight cent increase from yesterday.
For New York as a whole, the average for a gallon of gas is slightly higher at $4.37. The national average is $4.17
The question on everyone's mind is how to save. Experts say to pay cash when you can because many stations give breaks to those not using credit cards.
In addition, joining a gas rewards program or warehouse club like Costco can offer relief.
Lastly, slow down - accelerating too quickly and braking too fast can lower your gas mileage.
